González was born in Salvador, Brazil and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bahia Federal University and a law degree from Catholic University of Salvador. She got her start in journalism at the Correio da Bahia newspaper in 1989, and has since gained 16 years of journalism experience as a reporter in newspapers and magazines, a television producer and online editor in Brazil. In 1997, she joined Folha de S.Paulo, Brazil’s best selling newspaper, where she worked as a reporter covering political and economic news. Since 2000, González has worked as an editor at Universo Online (UOL) in São Paulo, the leading online media portal and Internet company in Brazil. UOL gathers the world’s largest content in the Portuguese language. Most recently, she was the education, employment and health editor with responsibility for five large-audience sites related to education and careers. She was awarded the Banco do Brasil prize in 1997 for the best journalistic contribution to culture.
