Empowering and defending global innovators in journalism

JSK Journalism Fellowships at Stanford
Main content start

Based at Stanford University, the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships empowers diverse journalism leaders to succeed as effective change agents, sustain democratic communities, and defend press freedom around the world.

Each year, we invite up to 20 journalists from around the world to join us for nine months at Stanford University. During this time, they work collaboratively to address journalism’s most urgent challenges. If you are a journalist with a passion for re-imagining and transforming the field, we encourage you to apply.

Shaping the future together

We're looking for journalists who are excited to find and test new ideas for making news and information more accessible, which is crucial for healthy democratic communities.

If you're ready to take a step back from your current role and dedicate yourself to this mission, our fellowship offers the support you need to develop leadership resilience. This includes personalized mentorship, specialized programming, and a collaborative environment designed to cultivate your skills and confidence.

We are committed to the many dimensions of diversity — professional and personal background, experience and thought — and work to ensure a welcoming and inclusive fellowship experience. We seek fellows who share our dedication to these ideals.

The fellowship experience

Our nine-month residency fellowship is structured to include an openness that allows fellows to use their time exploring solutions to journalism's challenges and sitting in on Stanford classes.
