Frequently asked questions about JSK Gather

JSK Gather supports alumni who want to organize gatherings with other fellows in their region or community.

Many of the strongest connections in the JSK network happen when alumni simply spend time together. These gatherings can be informal or focused on a shared topic, project, or challenge facing journalism.

JSK Gather provides light support to help alumni bring people together.

JSK Gather supports in-person alumni gatherings in your city or region.  The goal of these gatherings can include:

  • Building relationships among alumni.
  • Sharing ideas or current projects.
  • Supporting one another’s work.
  • Brainstorming collaborations or initiatives.


 

If you would like to organize a gathering, please email jskalumni@stanford.edu for the application form link.

Please submit the form at least two months before the event so JSK has time to review the plan and help share the invitation with other alumni in your area.

JSK will support alumni who want to host an in-person alumni gathering  with: 

  • Funding (up to $10-$50 per person) for in-person events with a minimum number of five people attending.
  • Contact information for local alums.
  • Promotion of the gathering in the JSK Connect newsletter, when possible.
  • A list of ideas for ways to gather.


 

  • The event should be open to all JSK alumni in your region.
  • Submit your application at least two months in advance so there is time for JSK to make sure we have time to review your plan and approve it. And that there’s enough time to invite alumni.
  • Inspire others: take pictures and share them with JSK and in our LinkedIn and WhatsApp groups.
  • Have an event purpose or desired outcome.


 

  • Walk & Talk: Walk together and rotate conversation partners every 15 minutes.
  • Show & Tell: Bring an item representative of a recent or current project or just something that you're curious about, use it to share a story with your fellow alumni.
  • Forward Story: What happened to you after the fellowship?
  • Picnic in the park.
  • Potluck.
  • Coffeehouse catch up.
  • Happy Hour.
