We’re hiring! The John S. Knight (JSK) Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University is seeking applications for a rare opening: the position of managing director. Reporting to the director, the managing director is part of a 3-person leadership team that helps run an ambitious fellowship program, executes strategy and projects, and selects and supports diverse journalists from around the world who are creating solutions to journalism’s most urgent problems.

The program focuses on helping emerging journalism leaders and JSK alumni succeed as effective change agents, improving the access to information people need to create and sustain democratic communities, while challenging misinformation and disinformation; holding the powerful accountable; strengthening local news; and fighting bias, intolerance and injustice.

Competitive candidates must have an established professional reputation in journalism and innovation. They must have experience leading change in organizations, and managing projects and people. Especially important is a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, key values of the JSK Fellowships. A person who succeeds in this job will be an excellent collaborator and mentor, with a bias for action.

Core responsibilities involve managing partnerships and community building for the fellowship, while having a key role leading other areas, including management of the alumni and programmatic elements of the JSK Fellowships.
