Pam Maples

Pam Maples is senior managing director of the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships. Pam leads the JSK Fellowships selection process with an eye toward building inclusive application and screening stages that lead to diverse pools of candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

She helps fellows tap into Stanford’s intellectual resources and manages the program’s on-campus collaborations, such as its partnership with the Stanford Institute for Advancing Just Societies and association with the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. She coaches and advises fellows on organizational transformation and career strategy.

Pam, a JSK alum, brings to the program experience as a reporter, editor and senior leader in several newsrooms. Prior to joining the fellowship, she was vice president of editorial at the video news start up Newsy. She previously was managing editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and STLToday.com, where she integrated digital and print news operations, introducing new reporting tools and storytelling methods. She led the staff in coverage that was selected as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News.

Pam also worked at The Dallas Morning News, where she was part of a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for a series about violence against women. She held several editing roles at the paper, including assistant managing editor of investigations. Pam began her journalism career as a reporter in local newsrooms in Missouri, New Mexico and Colorado.  

She is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
